Typology

For this assignment we were introduced to 'typology'.
Typology is art form in photography that looks at an variations of an object.
This art form was made famous by German Photographers Bernd and Hilda Becher.

Typology is produced using a grid format, which the varying images are places side by side to show there similarities and differences.
To create an idea of consistency the photographs need to be taken from the same distance from subject to camera, the same focal lengh, aperture and shutter speed, and preferably with the same lighting conditions and time of day. For example the images above are all taken on an overcast day, where the light is at its brightest so there are less harsh shadows covering details of the objects.

For my typology I have decided to look into chinmeys.
This is my first attempt, I tried to shoot chimenys from the same angle with blue sky behind them and the sun pointing from the side, rather than trying to shoot chimneys with the sun behind them as I was getting burnt out sky.
I have converted it to black and white, I think it looks better as iot removes the variation in colour of the sky, which I thought was distracting.

I then took each box of my typology and overlayed them in photoshop.
